Yuko C. Nakamura, DMD, MD
Meet Dr. Nakamura
Dr. Nakamura was raised in the populous, metropolitan city of Tokyo, Japan. She moved to the United States to earn her Bachelor of Science (BS) with a major in Cell and Molecular Biology and a minor in Chemistry at Duke University. She spent several years working at a Xenotransplantation research laboratory under renown researcher, Dr. Jeffrey Platt at the Duke University Medical Center, with publications involving immunology research. She later received her Doctorate in Medical Dentistry (DMD) from Case Western Reserve University, School and Dentistry, and Doctorate in Medicine (MD) from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University and completed her General Surgery Internship and her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Columbia University’s affiliate hospitals, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital of New York.
She currently holds hospital privileges at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. She was on staff as an associate clinical professor at Highland General Hospital of Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland, where she taught Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residents. Dr. Nakamura has served in non-profit, humanitarian organizations such as “Healing the Children” in Managua, Nicaragua to provide surgical care for children with cleft lip and palate deformities and “Kids International Dental Service” in towns surrounding Antigua, Guatemala to provide dental services to the underprivileged children. She plans to continue her outreach services as much as possible.
